Breton Tract Protected

On March 21, 2025, the Mount Holly Conservation Trust closed on the purchase of the Breton Tract, near the end of Greendale Road, in a landscape connected to the Green Mountain National Forest.

This property is important because of its location and the opportunities it preserves for public access and quiet outdoor recreation, including hiking, hunting, fishing, birdwatching, cross-country skiing, and snowshoeing.

The property is also identified in honor of Harvey A. Breton and his love of conservation and the outdoors. Protecting this land preserves an important part of the Mount Holly landscape for both wildlife and the community.

Why this place matters

This remarkable landscape, featuring pristine forests and wetlands, provides critical habitat for beavers, moose, deer, bears, and countless other species. Beyond its ecological importance, it offers a unique opportunity for public recreation, including hiking, fishing, hunting, birdwatching, cross-country skiing, and snowshoeing. Protecting this land ensures both wildlife conservation and continued access to these cherished outdoor activities for generations to come.

Donations in support of this work are still welcome and will help ensure that the Breton Tract remains protected and accessible for years to come.
